What are you searching for?

๐Ÿ” What Are You Searching For? ๐Ÿค”

Whether metaphorical or not, we are all searching for something. ๐ŸŒ

As the summer passes, many of us might wonder, Did I find what I was searching for? ๐ŸŒž

The longing to relive sensations of freedom ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ, lightness ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ, and joy ๐Ÿ˜„ is often rooted in our childhood memories. ๐ŸŽˆ

We often try to recreate those exact scenarios, hoping to capture the same feelings. โœจ

However, while the activities of our childhood holidays seem to be what we’re searching for, I believe we’re really seeking that sense of adventure ๐Ÿงญ, discovery ๐Ÿ”, and connection โค๏ธ that can arise in any moment if we allow ourselves the time. โณ

๐ŸŒฟ A recent experience brought this into sharp focus.

A French couple stayed with us at our permaculture project ๐ŸŒฑ, and I noticed that the man wasnโ€™t fully present. ๐Ÿค”

Curious, I asked him what he was looking for, and it soon became apparent that he was searching for a specific type of authentic relationship rooted in his childhood memories of Italy. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น

His precise search for a past experience caused him to overlook other opportunities for connection and joy in the present. ๐ŸŒŸ

This made me realise how we can become so focused on recreating a specific scenario that we miss out on other, perhaps even more fulfilling, experiences. ๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿงธ Is This Fruitless Search Inhibiting Our Reconnection with Our Inner Child? ๐Ÿ‘ถ

In this case, it seems so. ๐Ÿ˜” By focusing on recreating a specific past experience, we may block ourselves from embracing the spontaneous joy that comes from being open to the present. ๐ŸŽ‰

While the desire to reconnect with our inner child can drive our search, being overly specific about how we find that connection can actually hinder it. ๐Ÿšง

True happiness often comes from tuning into our internal sense of adventure ๐Ÿง—โ€โ™‚๏ธ and discovery, rather than fixating on external scenarios. ๐ŸŒŒ

โš–๏ธ The Danger of Searching Too Specifically ๐Ÿ”

I often find that we become too focused on specific details in our search, concentrating more on external factors than internal ones. ๐Ÿง

We create strict criteria for what makes us happy ๐Ÿ˜Š, which keeps us in a constant state of unsatisfied searching. ๐Ÿ”„

Often, we are searching for how we felt in the past, tying those feelings to a specific scenario. But life is dynamic, and the joy we seek is more likely to come from being open to new experiences rather than trying to relive old ones. ๐ŸŒ

๐ŸŽฒ The Role of Playfulness in Life ๐Ÿงธ

In my research on how to “Play the Game of Life” ๐ŸŽฎ, I’ve found that when we reconnect with our “Play History” ๐Ÿ›, we rediscover that playful, innocent presence within us, which serves as a guiding principle. ๐Ÿงญ

This connection to our playful nature brings us back to our intuition ๐Ÿ”ฎ, helping us navigate life with more joy and spontaneity. ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ™ When I was in India ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ at the Ramana Ashram this past winter in Tiruvannamalai, a “fool of God” looked straight at me and said,

โ€œStop searching! Stop it. What are you searching for? God is already within you!โ€ โœ‹

“As someone raised in an atheist family, despite having been on a spiritual path for a long time, hearing that was profoundly impactful.” ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

It went beyond the connotation of the word “God” and, in that very moment, my incessant search stopped. ๐Ÿšซ

My ADHD mind quieted ๐Ÿคซ, and I found myself full of a special presence that had always been within meโ€”I just hadnโ€™t noticed it beforeโ€”an explosion of energy and presence. ๐Ÿ’ฅโœจ

โณ Living in the Present ๐ŸŒฑ

This experience made me realise that when we’re in “searching mode” ๐Ÿ”, we aren’t truly present. Weโ€™re always looking for the next thing or living in nostalgia for a past thatโ€™s long gone. โณ

There is a difference between being curious and open ๐Ÿค” and โ€œsearching.โ€ ๐Ÿ”

Our searching is really about coming back to our authentic selves, akin to the search for the philosopher’s stone. ๐Ÿง™โ€โ™‚๏ธ

However, this search can take many forms, and itโ€™s important to remain open to discovering our true selves in unexpected ways. ๐Ÿšชโœจ
